Nasi Kandar Pelita began as a stall in a corner coffeeshop located at Taman Chai Leng, Perai, Penang. Over the years, it has become a well-loved brand with numerous local and international outlets.

In line with customer satisfaction as our priority, Nasi Kandar Pelita serves up hot and fresh food at all times of the day. We also provide catering services for various events.

The year 1995 marked the inception of Nasi Kandar Pelita as a corner coffeeshop stall located at Taman Chai Leng, Perai, Penang. Word of mouth about its mouthwatering dishes led to Nasi Kandar Pelita purchasing the coffeeshop and extending its operating hours to 24 hours.

Nasi Kandar Pelita was founded by the late Mr. Kirudu Muhamed Bin Kuppaikanni, the late Mr. Kaliq Jamal and Tan Sri Dato Ramesh. With 40 years' experience in cooking nasi kandar, Mr. Kirudu was the first person to introduce a fully wall-to-wall tiled 24-hour nasi kandar outlet at Tamil Street next to the Penang Chowrasta Market. He was the creator of 'Kuah Campur', a specialty sauce that imparts an unforgettable taste to nasi kandar. Mr. Kaliq had more than 34 years' experience in cooking nasi kandar, along with extensive culinary knowledge. He had enhanced and preserved the taste of traditional nasi kandar.

Nasi Kandar Pelita's stellar achievements are backed by individuals with vast experience, strong management skills and strategic insights.

By implementing innovative business and management strategies as well as stringent quality control on secret sauces and recipes, Nasi Kandar Pelita has evolved into a multi-million ringgit international operation. It has cemented a reputation as Malaysia's largest nasi kandar restaurant chain.

Nurturing Growth with a Synergistic Team
The board of directors of Pelita Samudra Pertama (M) Sdn Bhd are Dato’ Haji Ustaz Shamsuri Bin Ahmad the Executive Chairman, followed by the Executive Directors Tan Sri Dato’ Ramesh, Dato’ Haji KK Sihabutheen Bin Kirudu Mohamed & Dato’ Haji Uswath Khan Bin Kirudu Mohamed. Together as a team they succeeded in establishing a chain of Nasi Kandar Pelita branches both locally and abroad, holding the Malaysia Book of Records for being the largest Nasi Kandar restaurant chain.
Our history

A Fusion of old & new

On 9 June 1995, Nasi Kandar Pelita first opened for business as a stall selling nasi kandar at a corner coffee shop at Taman Chai Leng, Perai, Penang. In a short time, word of Nasi Kandar Pelita's tasty dishes spread and some time later the restaurant was able to buy the coffee shop.

The growing popularity of Nasi Kandar Pelita's food led them to extend their business hours to 24 hours which helped transform the once sleepy hollow of Taman Chai Leng into a more lively and busy hub. People from all walks of life thronged to the restaurant just to taste their nasi kandar. Since then, Nasi Kandar Pelita has grown to become Malaysia's largest nasi kandar restaurant chain.

Nasi Kandar Pelita was established on the concept of bonding the old generation with the new generation of nasi kandar entrepreneurs. Combining the culinary knowledge of the older generation and the innovative business and management strategies of the new generation has resulted in turning a small scale business into a multi million Ringgit Malaysia international operation.

The men behind Nasi Kandar Pelita are two family friends, Mr. Kirudu Muhamed Bin Kuppaikanni or as regulars know him, Abang K. K., and Mr. Kaliq Jamal, popularly known as 'Pak Misai'. Abang K. K. has more than 40 years experience in nasi kandar cooking and is the very first person to introduce a fully wall to wall tiled 24-hour nasi kandar outlet located at Tamil Street next to the Penang Chowrasta Market. He introduced 'Kuah Campur' a specialty that definately give Pelita's nasi kandar its unforgettable taste. Pak Misai has more than 34 years experience in nasi kandar cooking and is a man of great culinary knowledge. Through his skill, he has improved and maintained the great taste of traditional nasi kandar.

Our future

It’s been 28 years now since Nasi Kandar Pelita started to operate. Success requires nurturing and hence Nasi Kandar Pelita’s aggressive expansion to introduce Nasi Kandar Pelita restaurant to their valued customers in all major Malaysian states have been a huge success today.

Nasi Kandar Pelita plans to enhance their customer service by incorporating efficient, intuitive, reliable and secure digital system into their business, whilst being in par with the vast technology development.

Besides that, on March 2003, Nasi Kandar Pelita succeeded in opening their first international branch in Chennai, India. To add on, by the year 2023, Nasi Kandar Pelita is planning to expand their wings by opening up five more international branches in few other Asian countries.
